Carry on Collecting: New Acquisitions
This new exhibition features over 30 objects, which have been donated to Stromness Museum since the Collections Development Team started work in 2017.
The items chosen highlight some of the key subjects in Stromness Museum's collecting policy and fit into three broad categories:
Old Stromness – The Social History of Stromness, its residents and maritime heritage
Wartime Orkney – Objects from both World Wars
East Meets West – The span of our Ethnography collection
The objects on display come from near and far, each have their individual history, but all are connected to Orkney. They also demonstrate the wide range of different ways objects come into the collection: ranging from family heirlooms to chance beach finds as well as through Receiver of Wreck. Together the objects tell the unique story of Orcadians and their place in the world.
