Móti at the Museum

We are currently working in collaboration with the Móti collective, an artist group from Orkney.

This project began with the Stromness Museum inviting the artists to participate in an online workshop with a view to create an innovative digital tour.

Initially, the workshop was to investigate potential relationships between the Móti`s artworks and the museum collections.

We approached this by using their artwork as an instructive starting point to explore the collections.

Throughout the workshop we discussed and recorded the possible connections. This gave a fascinating insight into the relevance of the collections as well as providing alternative contexts to the artist`s work.

The original aim was to bring the museum’s collection alive in an imaginative way and present this to the wider community in the form of a digital tour.  However, the artists were so inspired by the workshop they decided that they`d like to have an exhibition within the museum and create new works based around the artefacts, stories and themes. These pieces are now in development, and we are to host an exhibition of these in Spring next year.

As a precursor to this Móti will also produce a series of blogs showing their progress. These will start soon and be available to view on the museums website so watch this space!
